Guys,

Been a member on the board for a while, but just starting to move into MTB'ing from my road days.

Just bought a PP Shan frame, but don't seem to be able to source a PP headset.

Anybody know which one I can use in replacement?

The info on the PP factoid sheet is:

Type: Tapered 1inch 1/8 1 inch ½
Standard: Campi 45ºx45º IS 42-IS52

I tried a Cran Creek Italian IS42 in the top and it went in no problems. Then I bought an IS52 for the bottom and it was a tight squeeze. Gave it a tap in and then it felt like crap, the bearing was really rough, so tried to take it out and the bearing exploded!! :(

Help?

Sounds like a faulty bearing or fitment, it should go in fine and the load from the headtube isn't enough to deform the outer race, if it exploded on removal it sounds like you were pushing it out by the inner not outer....

Worth checking the frame for no high spots etc in the lower bore. a small smear of grease helps it go in square as well.
