Using a car broker

Has anyone used a car broker to buy a new car?
I am looking at buying a new car, but see no point paying VAT for a NEW new car. I was thinking of getting an ex demo (thrashed) or one year old equivalent. But a friend suggested a car broker:
e.g. www.buyanewcaronline.co.uk and gbcardeals.com
Looks like I am saving about 16% using these guys. The model I am looking at is a Mazda 3, so that saving is around £3k.
It looks too good to be true. So, has anyone used these brokers? What's the catch?
