Mudguards for fixed

I've got a tricross SS so loads of clearance and fixings for proper guards but I'm after a set that don't need to be unbolted to remove the rear wheel.

I know it's possible to bodge some SKS guards by using the front quick release fitting on the rear, but just wondered if anyone knows of a set of guards which come with a similar kind of fitting (or some other way of quickly getting the guard out of the way to enable wheel removal) as standard?

  • I've got a Genesis Skyline which came with SKS Chromoplastics (back in 2008).

The bike's got horizontal dropouts and the rear mudguard is in a position where it doesn't have to be moved
to take out or put back the rear wheel.

One point to note is that the tyre cannot be fully inflated to do this. Otherwise, no problems.

I ride a Tricross Single and use RoadRacer guards and just undo the nut on the rear stay as I've added a second set of stays on the MKII extended guards and mounted them on the pannier rack legs.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Using a pair of SKS Secu Clips on the rear does work really well with track ends and I really haven't seen a better solution when using Chromaplastic.

Spare Secu Clips are about £3-4 a pair.

You can run them without them as spin city has suggested, and that is fine - if you only ever remove the wheel when you have a p***ture. This works for most people who only run one sided. If, as I do, you run fixed/fixed and need to flip the wheel, then that isn't so good (that said, my new fixed has forward facing dropouts rather than track ends, and I can't flip without deflation - it is a bit of an unforeseen pain, but I never flip out on a ride, so I will survive).

Never had a problem with this but if concerned you cut the metal rods on the SKS guards to length so it's easy enough to leave yourself room.

You'll probably need to leave some room anyay as you might need the wheel further back if you change gearing.
