I bought a Go Big mount for my GoPro and already have a standard Garmin mount but that was before this new version came out. And FWIW my mate is one of the camera men on the forthcoming David Millar film and they've been using Go Big mounts on the Garmin bikes because they're rock solid and don't vibrate.

They look good. My experience of the Go Pro mounts is very poor so I can see why your mate went with something like this (my Go Pro might not have smashed to bits and I might still have the footage of doing 59mph down the Cairngorms :( )

Down from Glenshee ski centre heading south (it helped that there was a 60mph wind blowing that day "worst UK storms in 50 years"). We rode Inverness to Livingstone

That's the one. I climbed up the south side (from Dundee) in 30C heat and no wind this summer, so quite the opposite to you, then turned and hurtled back down again. I think I hit 54mph or so but got freaked out by a guy in a Volvo estate who was about to pull out from the car park half way down - how dare he! It's a great descent. Inverness to Livingston is some quality milage.

That doesn't sound like a day to be doing that (still, I did Alpe D'Huez 6x in a day this year and it was 33C and 94% RH). Shame about the Volvo but it's a very long way from help if something goes wrong. I started to get shimmy which, I have to say, caught my attention. Had I realised just how fast I was going, I'd have been more worried! I don't even own the Strava segment any more either! Wish I had the footage as I don't plan to try it again - especially not in the wet.

I really don't know why they don't put a tether slot on the gopro housing - I use a small chord around the bar - it's never going to hold in extreme conditions but if the mount breaks then it'll dangle around (not in the wheel) and hopefully give me time to stop and remove it.

Is there not one (of some sort) on the Hero 3? I've got one (to replace the busted one) but I don't remember. You can buy tethers from Go Pro but I don't remember where to attach them. Yes, careful where it dangles (and the Go Pro  ). Fortunately mine fell off in a quiet flat bit (though our support car nearly ran over it) but it would have caused mayhem had it fallen off into the chasing pack down from Glenshee - it exploded like a grenade and bikes would have been swerving in all directions to avoid it.
