LBS is offering an ex-demo 2014 Giant Defy Advanced 1 for £1500 (from an RRP of £2400). Then I saw that the 2015 Advanced 1 has an RRP of only £1650.
Anyone know what they've done to the spec to drop the price so much? Both are Ultegra shod but most of the components are Giant's own so I'm not really up on the specs (apart from the TRP mechanical discs on the new one).

Not sure.. but im looking at a 2015 defy advanced that has got ultegra and disc brake setup, and the frame is supposedly lighter, for £1650. I think (may be wrong) that the 2014 defy advanced used T700 carbon whereas the new advanced defy uses T600..0

Both bikes use the same advanced grade composite, Giant don't show what type on the current website, but if IIRC from last year (2014 models), it was Toray T700. The 2015 model has the redesigned D-Fuse frame and disc brakes.
Component are same apart from, the 2014 bike has the Overdrive 2 steerer, wereas the 2015 bike has Overdrive. Wheelsets and brakes are different obviously and the seatposts.0 -
Thanks for that. So it would appear that the 2014 was poor VFM at £2400 compared to the new model?
Guess I was hoping that last year's Advanced 1 (£2400) might be comparable to this year's Advanced Pro 1 (£2600) except for the discs obviously. Which might make the £1500 ex-demo a bit of a bargain.0 -
Well yes the VFM is debatable, Giant are probably pricing the new 2015 models to encourage sales take up. If you are not bothered about having the latest model, then the 2014 bike is a good saving.
And yes I would say the 2014 Advance 1 is comparable to the 2015 Advance Pro 1, Though Giant are claiming that the new D-Fuse frame is more compliant and lighter.0
