hi.
i'm trying to get a few easier gears on my road bike, going to put a 30t cassette on it and will need a new rear mech. the choice seems to be between a 9 speed sora or slx shadow. its got basic 2300 shifters. is there any disadvantages to running a shadow mech?
thanks

Have you tried the 30t with your 2300 mech? It might work ....

According to the Shimano Tech Docs. the Sora RD-3500-SS will take a max (low) sprocket of 32T so buy the cassette and try it first.

In the link below first select Road, top right, then below in the Component section select Rear Derailleur, Then below in the Series section select SORA then hit the Submit button. A new table should appear listing the derailleur specifications.

  • Hey, thanks for the answers, I will try a 30t with the original mech before I try anything else. If I do need a new mech would people recommend a sora or a slx shadow?
