Edge 810 auto upload questions

Couple of pre-purchase Edge 810 questions;

1. I understand that when you have paired the 810 with your phone via bluetooth and want to upload your ride to Garmin Connect (and thus a linked Strava account) you press the ‘save’ option when you have stopped your ride. Does this auto upload still require the Garmin Connect app to be running/open on your phone or will it do it without having to touch the phone (as long as it has a data connection)?

2. If you don’t have your phone within Bluetooth range and you ‘save’ the ride on the 810 do you have to ‘manually’ upload it via the Garmin Connect app on the phone when it is within Bluetooth range (and the 810 is switched on of course) or will it pick it up and do it automatically without manual intervention needed once within Bluetooth range?

I have an android phone if it makes a difference (Nexus 5).
Cheers, Stu

    1) If you're using the 810 with phone connection, Garmin Connect will be open. As soon as you stop the ride and save it, it is in the process of being saved to Garmin Connect and any linked Strava account. You can stop the Garmin Connect app as soon as you stop the ride and save it on the device.

    2) It should pick up what's on the device as soon as you open the app on your phone.

    I use LiveTrack every ride for a few reasons and one link automatically posts onto the club FB account. It's easier than messing around with notifications to who wants the link on certain days and who doesn't. Anyone who wants to monitor the ride can just click the FB link.

    Ok so with them paired (i can just leave BT on on the 810 SSo they pair automatically? ), i click save on the edge 810 but it won't upload to Garmin/Strava until I open the Connect app.

    My procedure for doing this is as follows (as I used to connect to the app prior to starting a ride, but I had problems with uploads failing at the end of the ride).
    This way works for me every time.

    I basically do my ride on the garmin without doing anything on the phone and once I have saved my ride at the end, I then turn off and then turn on again the Bluetooth which prompts my garmin to then say "phone disconnected" and then "phone connected" (once the Bluetooth is back on again), and then I open the app on my iPhone and then it auto syncs (and I have linked my strava to my garmin account for auto uploads).

    Thanks snakedoc, i have ordered an 810 so will have a play.
    Your method seems good to me, i dont want to mess with the phone prior to a ride so had planned to save it on the 810 then open the app on the phone (obviously pairing would already be setup, assuming you dont need to turn on the BT every time in the app). Have you tried that way? (ie not recycling the BT prior to opening the app)

    As soon as I switch my device on it prompts me to connect to pair with the phone which I do. If I have a course to ride I load that from the device memory. I then start the LiveTrack function from Garmin Connect on the phone connection and press start on the device. When I finish the ride I press stop on the device and follow the prompt to save the ride. As soon as it is finished saving, I switch the device off. I then go to the phone where LiveTrack will have stopped and within minutes the ride will have automatically uploaded to Garmin Connect.

    Well got the 810 and i'm using the 3.24 beta.

    The auto upload seems to work ok (bluetooth connected to my phone from when i power on the Garmin) as soon as i saved the activity and the Live Tracking seemed to work ok as well (only tested on my driveway briefly but nevertheless).
