Yes, sorry, I know...

Bit of background:
- I'm a mid 40's Roadie looking to do some mountain biking - probably mostly over winter / spring
- Using MTB as an alternative to mind numbing turbo sessions in the garage
- I live 5 mins from Cathkin Braes in Glasgow & not far from another couple of MTB trails
- Not looking to do anything too technical or 'jumpy'
- Purchasing through cycle2work, so limited to cyclescheme retailers
- I've applied for £1k voucher, so that's the budget give or take £100ish

I've done some research and have so far narrowed to these (all 29ers for no particular reason), I'm not worried about brand names - but would like good frame & components that are likely to last a while.

Appreciate any help or guidance as coming from Road, MTB spec's / components etc are a bit of a mystery to me!

None of them would be a bad buy, but the 2014 Pinnacle seems to offer the best value for money. Not much in it though. Are you close enough to a store to test any of them?

    Thanks chaps.
There is an Evans close to work, so assume they could get one for me to test ride (I'm 5'11")' so the pinnacles edge it a little for me on that front I guess.

If getting a bike delivered, assume they come set up, just need to straighten the bars?

Arrrrgh, so looks like the large on one is out of stock till Feb. I might get away with the medium, being 5'11" ish, better measure my height properly!

On One would be my choice.
Road bikes are for winter training and mountain bikes all year round.
  • On One for me too.
And I would check the sizing by sitting on a couple. I'm a medium on my 29er, large on my 26 - 6ft 1, 32 inch inseam (yes, I have stubby little legs)
    2007 Felt Q720 (the ratbike)
2012 Cube Ltd SL (the hardtail XC 26er)
    2014 Lapierre Zesty TR 329 (the full-sus 29er)

    Thanks again...
Just realised there is a new Planet X store opened in Edinburgh, about an hours drive, but worth it if I can sit on a medium before deciding - height wise I think it might be ok, but I do have fairly long legs (34" inseam measured by the book in-between legs method).
