Cassette and tyres

So stage 2 of my master plan, bought me a new set of tyres now need to get my old ones setup for the missus, but a couple of questions:-
1 - AXIS 2.0 off a Spec Roubaix Sport 2014 - Will it fit a Shimano HG-40, 8-speed, 11-32t cassette? Do I need to buy spacers? If so any links as to which ones or are they much the same?
2 - Will some 36 x 1.95 fit onto the AXIS 2.0 rim? Any recommendations for 36 700c to be used for country parks and stoney canal paths
Thanks.

36mm wide x 1.95 wide or diameter? How wide is the internal width of the Axis 2.0?0 -

So sounds like 8 speed will go on, no spacer needed, if I read the above correctly.
Shimano HG-40, 8-speed I think are ancient and discontinued, I found HG41 http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-cs-hg41 ... 60507532uk I'm thinking that should work right?
The rim internal width is 19mm. Sorry I meant can I put 700x38 tyres on that rim?0 -
Yes the freehub splines are the same so you can use the MTB/Touring cassettes. As for spacers I think you should be ok without as I'm sure I've read on here that the 8/9/10sp are the same overall width. Though if you have an 11sp wheel then a spacer/s are required.
As for the tyre that 38mm should be ok if you have the frame clearances on the bike.0 -
Thanks. I think I've read folks get away with 38's on the same bike also the workshop guy at Spec shop said he's done that before on the same bike so I'd assume the bike has the clearance.
Will order after my vacation and have my fingers crossed.
Any suggestions for good MTB tyres 700x38 and not so costly as they will get pretty low usage, puncture protection and as much stability as possible for uneven surfaces, no need for any road use.0 -
You would probably have more choice with 700c CX tyres rather than MTB which tend to be 50mm and wider these days. Don't rule out the 35mm wide tyres as I think there is more choice in this size.
There are some cheapish tyres on here: http://www.tredz.co.uk/cyclocross-tyres0 -
Cool 35mm is fine too, just need something more sturdy then her current 25's0
