Evening,
I currently have a saris bones cycle carrier, does anyone know if they are ok on carbon frames ? Was thinking of putting some pipe insulation around the contact points for a bit more protection.

Thanks

Yes I've carried a carbon triathlon bike with the previous model of Saris Bones.

The straps on mine are ratchet so you can adjust how tight they are. Just don't pull them mega tight. I cant remember if I used the strap for the seat tube as its curved around the rear wheel, I might have just used the two straps on the top tube.

I use tie wraps between the front wheel and the down tube to stop the stem / forks from turning. You can even add tie wraps between the bike and the Saris bones for extra security if you so wish (handy if you park at a service station for a few mins). Just remember to take some snips with you if you're driving to an event.

  • Thanks for your reply Ben@31, I currently use an adjustable rubber plant tie from Homebase for the front wheel to frame, works a treat and might save on tie wraps long term.

I regularly carry my Canyon Aeroroad on a Bones 3. I have pipe lagging on the contact points and this is fine.
Wouldn't want to carry it with all 3 carriers being used, but often have 2 bikes on there due to the potential damage pedals on other bikes can do.
  • I have the Bones 3. Buy some of the 1/4 inch thick sponge dish cloths from supermarket. Wrap around your frame and underneath the straps perfectly. Like the idea about tie wraps btw - have used electrical tape previously which also works well!

  • Thanks for all you replies guys, think I will add some additional lagging at the strap points just as a belt and bracek :-)
