Nukeproof mega AM chain growth

after having robbed a bunch of parts off my 2013 mega am to build up a hard tail, im now looking to replace them with new.

I had a medium cage SLX mech on the mega, running 11-36 x 32tooth front.

I had a couple of strikes on the lower cage of the SLX, so im looking at getting a ZEE mech to replace it.

now.. the zee mech is obviously a short cage, and my googling has shown that that mega linkage has a fair amount of chain growth.

Is this correct? Can the Zee mech cope with that growth?

Naturally i dont want to buy it just to find out that theres not enough movement in the mech!

Has anyone run a short cage/ZEE mech on a 2013 mega am? any issues?

I run a Zee on my TR and it can barely cope with the chain growth. I have to run the B Limit Screw too far in to take up the extra slack in top gear. I'd be very surprised if the AM had less chain growth than the TR.

The max capacity of this mech is 25t (the 11-36 option), so chain growth will indeed introduce slack in the highest gear if the chain is measured correctly. In theory - though in practice the above post validates it.

The chain growth is not unusally large though, no more than many other full sussers.

There is a lot of chain growth on the Mega frames but I do know at least one person using a Zee mech on a Mega AM but he does say he wouldn't use a range expander on the cassette with it.
  • thanks for the responses guys.

In the end i ordered the ZEE mech.

Ill have a look at the tension and fit, if it fails miserably, then we know that its not particularly effective on this setup on a Mega AM!

worst case, the ZEE will go on the BFe, and ill rescue the SLX back for the Mega!

Once ive got it on, ill post back with an answer!
  • so..

Fitted the ZEE mech to the MEGA today..

As previously said. to take up the slack, the mech needs to be right at the very edge of its adjustments.

It all just sits a bit too tight at full compression.

I didnt realize until now, that chain growth even existed!

Bascially as said, it will fit, but not very well. i dont think i would be perfectly comfortable riding it.

So.. back on with the SLX medium cage, and the ZEE is on my new BFe. where it works perfectly!
