Noisy bike?

I have two road bikes: and old Trek 1.5 (Sora) and a Cannondale SuperSix (105).
One difference which came as a surprise with the Cannondale was how much noisier it is to ride. The noise seems to come from two different sources: (1) wheels/frame seem to 'hum' even on smooth surfaces and (2) the drive chain 'rattles' - as far as I can work out, it seems to be the KMC chain links engaging/disengaging the FSA chainset. Nothing to do with derailleurs.
Anyone else noticed this? It's mildly annoying, particularly having just been out on the old Trek and notice how silent it is. Am I just too fussy?

    I actually found sora a smoother ride than 105 if that helps

    Are there different tyres on the bikes? If so, the road hum you hear will probably be down to that.

    Not really - 25mm GP4000s (80/90psi) on the SuperSix and 23mm GP4000s (90/100psi) on the Trek. I get the impression that the light large diameter tubes behave more like sounding boards - couple any vibrations to the air better. I'm just surprised how big a difference it makes (and miss the silent running - but not the harsh ride - of the Trek). Actually, I think its the clattering drive chain that is more intrusive - I'm wondering if that a characteristic of the FSA chainwheels?

    A thinner walled frame will always make sounds louder. It mashes a better soundbox, so to speak.
