Hi

I'm looking to buy my first road bike. I'm a bit old school when it comes down to materials and styles and have my mind set on a steel framed bike, Genesis Equilibrium 853.

What other alternatives are there in steel for around £1000-£1200?

I would also like to have the option to fit mud guards/carrier.

Cheers

Simon

Have a look at the options on the Ribble website:-

They have a 525 Reynolds steel frame that you can specify as you wish on their "bike builder"

With 10-speed Shimano 105 and Fulcrum 5 wheels thye price is just under £1000

Just had another thought if you want to avoid the mainstream and go a little bit "off piste"

The British frame builder Cotic will offer you a complete build of their Escapade frame for just under £1K

    http://www.cotic.co.uk/product/escapade#bike

They don't have any decent images of the complete build but you can get the idea from this thread on the "Your Road Bikes" forum

Thanks for the reply. I went up to Bradford and bought the Equilibrium 853. I've done a short 10 mile ride and it is really very nice. £1100 for a full 853 frame and fork and 105 group-set, I don't think that's too bad... well I'm happy. Just need to get fit now!
