Thule 970-3 issues

Hi,
I've recently bought a three bike Thule hangon of ebay, it's lockable & the one were you have to push down a lever to secure it....the older one I think.
The issue is that the lever will only secure it in one place & this makes the rack lean slightly away from the car which in my opinion doesn't look right.
I've tried utube/Google images to see the fit on other cars but they are the newer 970s.
Are these Hangons suppose to secure in any position when you push the lever down?

Cheers

Yep that is how they work.

No adjustment just lock onto the tow bar neck.

So it's supposed to be leaning away from the car & not upright then nicklouse?

I had a thule 9705 4 bike unit which is basically the same as yours, I didn't like how it leaned or wobbled when loaded, up so got a couple of hang on straps from halfords that hung off the tailgate top and basically held the rack back. I didn't need to do this but made me feel better and also looks steadier

Thanks will have a look at those straps.....it's reassuring to know this is standard especially when I bought the thing second hand & I have to take three bikes up the M6 to centre parks at the end of the month.

If that is the angle that your tow bar put it at. Yes. Nothing you can do other than change your tow bar set up or the rack.
