Need help on picking a bike!

Hey friends, I want to start mountain biking as a hobby but have no idea what bike to buy. In addition I require a bike to commute back and forth to university as I abhor walking each and every morning. I'm looking for a mountain bike which is 18"-19" and under £500. If you could suggest a bike to your younger inexperienced self which is under £500, what would it be?
Thank you!
Thank you!

Do look great. I went on the website they are 800 pound? Can you give me a link for reference . I've also been looking at Giants/Trex 3900Disc but they are either discontinued or sold out .0

Voodoo hoodoo would be my suggestion or the calibre two.two from go outdoors, I've got the hoodoo and enjoy riding it. At these prices the big names have poor specs.0

The fork on that is shocking. The hoodoo has a better fork, better drivetrain overall and is £50 cheaper.

Plus there's another 10% off with british cycling membership.0 -
