Campagnolo Daytona

Morning folks.
I've just had a brainwave and discovered a problem immediately afterwards. I've always fancied a winter hack/2nd bike but not had the funds nor the inclination. Just realised that I have an old beat-up Battaglin Performer in our garage with the above group set on it. I can transfer that onto a new cheap(ish) frame perhaps. Question is, which frame? Anyone any ideas? I believe it's Daytona throughout but need to check 1st. And therein lies the problem. Once I've sorted the correct frame, am I going to need any special tools to remove and then install on the new bike? I have some but they work on my shimano group set and I believe that they are not compatible. And my mechanic skills are wore than useless. Plus the wheels. Don't know what to do with them. The reason the Battaglin is beat up is because many years I saw it in my rear view mirror bouncing down the M6 at 60+ mph! It had fallen off the roof. I'm not going to ride the frame again because I have no idea if there is an
Y inherent weakness in it. Think the wheels maybe ok?
Appreciate any suggestions and mods pls move if in wrong area.

 Sorry, I'm no help in respect to your question, but can I ask what kind of rack you were using and do you know what failed?
  • No worries.
It was a Thule 591 (or whatever it was called then) similar to this

Excellent carrier when it works. I do take a small part of the responsibility for it failing but Thule should take the majority. Sadly they didn't. Interestingly within a couple of weeks of me contacting them about it, they changed and updated their instruction sheet! Apparently, they said, this was just a coincidence!! Yeah right!

Edit: the jaws just "failed". Why I don't really know. Bike was pointing opposite of direction of travel (handlebars at rear), and locked correctly

yes you can. daytona was either 9 or 10 speed. Good groupset that became centaur in 2002. No reason why you can't transer it over. A campanolo 9/10/11 speed compatible wheel will be needed but other wise it will work. Threading on the frame may be different for the BB but new ones are always available. Tifosi BB's are the cheapest good campagnolo compatible BB's.

  • Just looking at the CX section which got me thinking. What cheap CX frame might anyone suggest that would take my campag Daytona?

Planet X uncle John is the standard pick up and play cross frame
"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Check bike-discount.de for silly cheap Cube CX frames. Though you'll need to source a fork for it.

Check out Paul Milnes Ebay shop:-

Have purchased 2 frames from them in the past and can't fault them.
