Im in the process of building up a new Cotic BFe frame on bit of a budget
ive come to the point of buying cranks, and im at a stumbling block.
Back in february i built a Nukeproof Mega AM, and fitted the SLX m670 crankset.
They have been great so far and have taken a good beating!
Naturally, the BFe will take slightly less of a beating, but will still have to put up with what south wales has to offer!
so... im contemplating putting the Deore M610 crankset on. its £20 odd cheaper, and i will be going to a single N/W ring so shifting is irrelevent.
I'm also a bit fat, and stop at pubs for beer.... so weight it also a bit of a mute point!
Whats the opinion on these cranks? I'm basically looking for reasonable stiffness and durability? or am i better off stumping for the SLX?
does anybody use these Deore cranks for Trail riding? whats your opinion?
Ta!

The Deore are just as good, just a little heavier and they use the same BB as SLX.
The cranks will often have a harder time on a hardtail than an FS as the riders weight is acting direct through the back wheel over lumps and bumps (and landings) where on an FS the suspension takes some of the peak loads out.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Deore are great cranks, bombproof and just a little heavier than SLX.
Zee cranks are based on Deore. I think they are the same arms.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
that sounds like two votes for the deore there!
Ive looked at the zee. £24 more. and again wouldnt use the chainring!
The positive to them being the steel pedal insert i guess!0 -
I thought SLX uses the same BB as XT, which is far better than the Deore BB, which is sh1t.
I would get Deore, chuck/sell the BB and buy an XTR BB, which is the best.I don't do smileys.

I sold the BB and chainrings off my Deore cranks meaning the crank arms cost next to nothing.0
