Wheel builder options

I'm looking to build up a new cross bike, I have most of the build together, with only the wheelset to buy. I'd like to get a handbuilt wheelset over one of the manufacture built options, but I haven't a clue as to who to turn to for this. Ideally they'd be London based and able to advise on the best parts to get for my riding, which will be mostly the pot hole strewn London streets and some off-road as well.

Who should I turn to? Who should I avoid?

Ugo of this parish would be a good starting point!

As above. Ugo rides in exactly the conditions you describe, he built the wheels for my Crosslight and I've been very pleased with them. He has also built similar wheels for many other happy customers, he's based in Richmond so more convenient if you are in SW London.

If you can't drag yourself over here and why would you? I can recommend Arup Sen, he is based in SE London and has quite a reputation among the London Fixed Gear crowd
