Converting RD-6870 short cage to long cage
Am I right in assuming I can convert the SS cage to GS cage with only swapping parts 5 and 8 from bottom link, for the GS type.

Really a new RD 6870 GS is about 160 EUR and this parts are about 20 EUR0

Yes you can do this.
Wiggo famously did it during his winning TdF to run a 32 cassette cog in the mountains.
