Garmin Edge 810 - following maps

Ive just bought Garmin 810 and have a question about following maps.
I've added the fee maps for my local area as detailed in DCRainmaker, really easy to do, no problems at all. I used Garmin connect to plot one of my regular routes and uploaded it to the Garmin, again, easy to do.
The problem I found is that the Garmin would tell me to make a turn that wasn't on my plotted route. It was telling me to go the correct way (to get to the destination) but not the way I told it I wanted to go.
Am I doing something wrong? Or is that just the way it is?

I'm glad you asked this as I must admit I'd like to know the answer to this. I did the London to Brighton (off road) ride a couple of weeks ago and loaded the organisers route specified for Garmin onto it and had the same thing. I had to turn off the directions as it was driving me insane. Not managed to look into it yet. I probably would have forgotten until I need to use it again.0

You haven't got the device settings set correctly and did you save the route as a gpx file to new files rather than course?

The link will explain everything. I know it's for the 800 but the settings are the same. It's just a matter of navigating your way through the menus to the correct page.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0 -
and don't forget to turn off recalculation ...0
