Hi all, there doesn't seem to be much discussion about the Boardman Bikes Pro Carbon 650b 2014 anywhere on this site, or online for that matter. Any reason why, is it brand new? Anyone got any thoughts on it or possibly own one?

At the moment I have a Boardman Comp Hybrid but with the arrival of our son, and the turn in weather conditions, I'm realising that skinny slick tyres just aren't for me. Plus when little one grows up, off roading will be much more fun (and safer) than country lanes.

I'm no bike enthusiast, in fact, I need real motivation to even get out peddling, but I'm fortunate enough to be able to spend a not insignificant amount on a bike, really for two main reasons, I love the light weightness of carbon, and I'm a sucker for a good looking design!

Would this bike suit, or is there better for the price? Generally Boardmans are praised for high quality parts for a low price.

The downside of all this is having to deal with Halfords, especially after the last bike being replaced 3 times due to poor build quality and in one instances, badly assembled!

Thoughts welcome.

As you say, is quite a new bike, and is not available in all stores.

Frame, and especially fork, are excellent - but the rest of the parts are surprisingly medicore for Boardman, I'd expect higher level parts than Deore. Sure, it works, but is a bit heavy, as are those budget rims. Disappointing speccing decisions.

This is lighter and better specced, but limited sizing:

Also take a look at these:

The Flash has a very light frame, with flex engineered into it for comfort - the bike is less than 9.5kg!
  • I got the 26 inch pro carbon back in 2012. Brilliant machine that was well set up by halfords. Would agree with the relatively low rent Shimano components now. The fork is excellent . I fitted a set of hope wheels which made a big difference. Except for being 650 and its colour the frame looks virtually the same as mine, indeed geometry has not changed.

Thanks for the opinions so far. I'm not clued up on the components which is why I wanted to seek the advice of the bikeradar community. Seems unfortunately that most of those bikes recommended so far are all out of stock, or limited remaining stock which is a shame.

    Any more suggestions?

Annoyingly, where I live (South Cheshire), there appears to be an absolute shortage of decent bike shops with a good range of bikes to look at!
