Ours has fifty members now. People are starting to talk about membership fees (it's free ATM), insurance, British Cycling Membership etc. Not sure of the benefits of any of this.

How big is your club?
Do you pay?
What are the benefits?
What would you change?

Thanks.

  • My cycling club uses the money for coaching, race organising, youth events, renting the velodrome, general expenses and the like. We cannot be a member without BC membership because it covers us all for liability insurance and of course you can't race without a license.

But then it is old and caters for just about every age group and cycling event known. Considering how well it is run by so few I do not begrudge the payment at all. In fact I think we should recompense the secretary considering the effort he puts in.

Yes, dunno numbers - it's quite old so a fair few social members now ...
Pays for CTC membership for TTs
    Insurance
    Website

Plus a few other bits n bobs

~£20pa - it's not much and I don't mind contributing to keeping the club going

    2. Yes. Around £20 I think.
    3. Exclusive access to their Facebook group.
    4. Swinging from the nuts of our sponsors.

I'm actually riding for an RT next season as my current club doesn't care about TT's. Shame.

I ride with two collectives in the Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield area. Neither require a membership fee.

One of them has over 400 facebook members and gets well in excess of 60 riders for their Saturday morning rides (over the summer at least). They even have their own beer which amuses non-members that I speak to.

Personally I don't see the need to pay to join a club when I get a mid week ride with one collective and weekend ride(s) with the other. If I were a racer then I might think differently but as my requirement of a group/collective is a >20mph group ride over the summer both suit me perfectly.
