Hi,

I've just bought a new frame and I just wanted to check what headset to buy. Unfortunately, unlike every other f+f I've bought, genesis don't include a headset with this particular f+f :(

Specs are:
Headset: 44mm w/ ext. lower cup
Fork: 1.5" - 1-1/8" Tapered Steerer

Am I right in thinking these are the right headsets:

Many thanks,
Rob.

Which Genesis frame are you referring to?

I built up a Genesis Equilibrium earlier this year.

It came with a basic FSA external headset with caged roller bearings. Was not too keen on that so replaced it with a Cane Creek 40

Can't imagine you would go too wrong with one of those. Don't really see the need to spend big bucks on a Chris King or similar.

    Thanks, it's a Volare 953.

I've been reading and trying to learn about headsets and I think I've got it now...

The Volare has a 44mm internal diameter of the headtube, this is the X44 standard. A standard 1-1/8" integrated frame has is a 33.9mm headtube. The cane creek is suitable for a traditional 1-1/8" integrated, but I need one of these new fangled X44 headsets. 1-1/8" upper bearing, 1.5" lower with external cups. I think either of the ones I linked to will be fine.

I can't see any good reason to spend big bucks on Chris King either, so will go for the Cane Creek.
