Excuse the dodgy picture. The weeding has been done and the cracks in the patio sorted!
Ignore my commuter in the back.
Bought this as a frame last year and got it built up. Thinking about making some upgrades now.
Any suggestions welcome

Hmmm, I will excuse the dodgy photo, but only because your bike is so very very nice. It's a spot on race build, so can't suggest any "improvements". If you change anything it'll just be because you want to, a feeling I understand all too well.BMC Team Machine SLR01

Its not really a race build with 105 - its more a commuter/trainer build with that groupset.
I'd whack 10 speed Ultegra or D/A from the sales buckets on it and leave the groupset at that. Set of Mich Pro Race 4s in the current CRC deal or some Planet X 50 carbons.
And slam the stem
Otherwise its kinda retro funky cool.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Ridiculous comment - I know plenty of good racers using 105 on their race bikes!0 -

Nah. It's commuter/trainer stuff. Heavy, big and bombproof which is exactly what you want for commuter/trainer stuff. Just because "plenty of good racers" may or may not use it doesn't mean its any good and that they wouldn't get shot of it at a moment's notice for something that works nicer, is lighter, nicer to use, looks better and isn't 105.
I have it on the winter trainer and hate it.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

What a load of rubbish - 105 is perfectly good and if you think you need Ultegra/Dura-Ace you're spending money needlessly. I have 105 on my bike and my dad has Ultegra and there is absolutely no difference in performance, and around 200g in weight.

I had been thinking about demoting the group set into my commuter and getting either 6800 or 5800 for the Scott. The frame/seat post and forks are incredibly light (less than 1100 grms) so would be good to do it justice with a nice lightweight build. Thinking about some of the far sport carbon rim but think my wife might notice the box arriving!
What are the tangible benefits of a deep section v the weight penalty?Banstead in Surrey to Russell square and back

It's too nice to have that 105 junk on it - get some Ultegra in the sales. It's lighter, feels nicer, works better. Order the deep sections (increased aero, stiffness, lightess, speed, cool looks and noise against a tad of sidewind issues - although I've never suffered this on 50s) and have them delivered to work/mates' house. She'll never notice and job jobbed.
Tape the tubs on and you don't have any gluing faffle as well.
Did I mention that 105 is junk?Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Nice bike. What you and I will know is what an exceptional ride the Addict is, fantastic climber and superb descending and cornering. I have two, one HMF with 105 (shock horror) and a HMX LTD team with SRAM Red, I love them both. Enjoy!0

Guys. - there's a reason it's the third tier group set ........lPostby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Remembered I have a spreadsheet from the build.
Think its approx 7.4kg including bottle cage, speed/cadence sensor and those heavy pedals. Think it could easily get under 7kg with a little tweaking.Banstead in Surrey to Russell square and back

Nice light pedals, some P/X 50s, be well sorted.

Check out Johan Museeuw's bike from 1991 if you can find a photo. He replaced those weird swept-back Mavic brake levers with ......... Shimano 105 brake levers! That says enough about the quality of Shimano 105!
It is absolute rubbish to say that you can't race with Shimano 105.
DD.0 -
You can race with anything. Sora will do the job. You can race on Claris or whatever it's called.
It's just that there is so much that is better than 105. It's just not that great. Sorry. That's why it's third tier.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

6800 ordered...
Had been eyeing it up for months and got an email from ribble with it reduced.Banstead in Surrey to Russell square and back

Top work that man - saw the email as well and was just about to post on here saying "do you know that 6800 is on a deal at Ribble?"
Lose weight off the bike, nicer to use, better action, job jobbed. Now for some nice deep sections
Its going to look well good - post some more piccies when its all changed over.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Dude
Same a gruppo a couple of pounds cheaper at Merlin but you get free carbon Shimano pedals - worth a gander?Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Got a link to this?
Can't see itBanstead in Surrey to Russell square and back
FCN 40 -
Merlin home page, type in 6800 in the search box, hit the piccie for the gruppo on the page and it comes up in a box on the page.
They also have OEM sets for £40 less but with no free pedals, so probably works out the same if you new pedals.
If you can't find the deal post up and I'll fire up the PC - on someone's iPad at the mo' and can't copy/paste links - sorry.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Best price I see on merlin is £525.
Ribble is 70quid cheaper from what I can see.Banstead in Surrey to Russell square and back

Ah - just noticed that it's defaulted to my tax free location, dropping the price down. Apols.

Tax dodger!
Not convinced about the deep section wheels yet. Just noticed superstar do some bargain wheelsets, maybe a 35mm rim for a bit of compromise. Will look into themBanstead in Surrey to Russell square and back
FCN 40 -
Nah - that's a compromise. To compromise is to submit. To submit is to die.
Planet X or Carbonzone (Carbontec - you know, the dudes off the 'bay) carbon 50s or 60s - light, strong, well priced, roll well and with Swisstop yellow really good braking. Cost of wheels matches the value of the bike and they will look brilliant.
I'm running P/X 50s (with old logo) on the holiday home Trek (US Posta colours) and it brings the look/rise right up to date with financially crippling me.
Go on, do it- go plain black and get some Highroad stickers made up for them.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am
