Hypothetically, is the implication that because of the slower pace of the Vuelta, Contador capitalised when Froome did not have the SKY train setting a very high tempo like they did in 2013?
If so, then Contador has better acceleration uphill from a slower pace but Froome can meter a faster pace that is more difficult to attack. Difficult to ponder because Contador was not in top form in the 2013 TdF.
Hopefully, a fit AC, CF, VN and NQ will be competing in next years TdF.

This would be ideal, Quintana should have been able to race it this year, it's a shame he never got the chance. The Tour would have been a corker if the other two hadn't crashed as well.

I'm never sure what to make of these numbers, a rough idea of watts can be calculated but all the other variables such as wind speed and direction, air density, the friction created by different road surfaces, temperature etc aren't taken in to account.

This is essentially "Strava watts" so it's dangerous to point fingers based on it. If something seems too good to be true, it usually is though, especially in the world of cycling. For me the 2013 Vuelta is a lot more alarming than this years, if only because of the prior and post form of certain riders.

People always focus on the accuracy of the estimates when they should be scrutinising the validity of the comparisons and the inferences that the estimates are used to support. That's where the the real hogwash comes in.

They start with some big eyebrow raisers but end up saying they don't know anything.

    Fairly pointless exercise.
