Alternative to dura ace c24 wheels?

Currently use the dura ace c24 clincher wheels, considering zipp 202 wheels on my new bike (colnago c60) sticking with 23mm tyres because the colnago doesn't really accept 25mm.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, not sure about tubulars prefer to stick with clinchers.

So many it hard to know were to begin, Campagnolo shamal's, Fulcrum racing 1's or talk to a wheelbuilder and go with a wider rim. Fulcrum wheels now use wider rims so if you want factory go with these.

DA C24 is one of the best all-rounders out there - if you already have them, I'd stick with them..

Forgot to mention I'll be using them with dura ace di2, fancy trying continental competition tubulars just concerned about a possible lack of clearance, I'm going off on a tyre tangent...I can't really fault the c24's I'm using, just wanted an upgrade and thought about the carbon zipp 202's, slightly put off by the poor wet weather braking and squealing reports

I came across a chap test riding a prototype for next year's Rapha Condor team issue last week which had Campy Hyperon clinchers - not sure how well regarded they are but they looked the part! Crazy money mind!

Not sure if the clearances for wheels are the same on C59 and C60 frames but I found that 25mm tyres rubbed against the underside of the front forks on Archetype rims. That was the only time I tried 25mm - all others are 23mm. No problem with clearance for these when using Zipp 303 firecrest (brakes need quite an adjustment to clear rims!), Archetypes and Mavic C40 clinchers.

C24's are hard to beat as a good all round factory build wheelset. I really like the Fulcrum Zeros and (don't laugh) think the DA C35s look great!

Some tyre are taller than others. The problem is not the rims it the height of the tyre selected. Conti's always are taller than vittoria's for example. While the c24's are decent wheels if you want to upgrade trying the Campagnolo shamals or there other light wheels will not change anything.

Going with a wider rim will give you something different. For tubular wheels there is Miche supertype for factory these are very good but are carbon however you could contact a wheel builder to see what they can do with Pacenti SL23 rims and white Industry hubs for example. They would be similar weight to the C24's but with a a wide tubeless ready rim you could use the schwable one tubeless tyre and get lower rolling ressitance (no tube) better handling e.t.c that woudl be a real improvement.

  • I went from C24s to racing zero 2-way fit using tubeless tyres and I absolutely love them - so much so that when Wiggle were selling what they thought were 10sp only zeros for £600 I bought some more "for stock", as I was sure they'd never made 10sp only - and fortunately I was right as they have "11 speed" written on the block. Hurrah!
