Gran Canaria

Hi all
I'm heading out to Gran Canaria for 2.5 months this Winter, staying in Agaete on the NW coast. I've done quite a bit of research regarding riding there but a few things are still bugging me, so some input from anyone with experience of riding there would be greatly appreciated.
1. Gearing: I've done Majorca and other 'Alpine' style climbs comfortably with a 39-25. GC is apparently obscene in some places, would a 39-30 be good enough? FWIW I'm 179cm and 66kg.
2. Weather: take a gilet or rain cape on every ride? Arm/leg warmers in winter or not?
3. Lights: I've seen that there are some tunnels. Will I need front and rear lights for those?
4. Any good routes? Avg speeds appear lower due to the mountainous nature of the island. If I did 5hrs in the UK, I'd hope for 160km (100miles). I guess this is not going to be possible!
5. Anything else? If you can think of anything I haven't, give me a shout!
I leave the last week of November, so you've got plenty of time to think of 'advice' (or abuse)
