High Roller II...

Apart from £11, what's the difference between the 3C MaxxTerra and the MaxxPro 60a versions of the Maxxis High Roller II as found here...

Should I just assume that the more expensive version is better and the one to go for?
Thanks.

I think the 3C refers to that tyre having triple compound rubber against just 60a rubber throughout the whole tyre on the other. So you get harder rubber in the centre of the tyre to roll faster and softer rubber on the sides to get better grip - I think the third type is the carcass base layer.0

They're both good tyres.
Personally I have no problems with the 60a HR II other than a tendency to get squirrely earlier than the 3C. I think if it was a 55a or a 50a it would be pretty much perfect. As it is the 3C seeks to push the limit a bit further back by using a mixture of compounds which you may or may not find an improvement0 -
Thanks for the replies. Went for the 3C MaxxTerra. All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

I have the HRII 3C Maxterra front and rear on the Bronson - good tyre from what I can tell, no issues grip wise front and rear in the dry over slick rock and roots, dry and dusty chunder, loam, woodwork etc and rolls well on tarmac/packed dirt.
Havent had a huge amount of wet weather testing but the little I have done they seem OK if not exceptional.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -
Ive got super tacky front and rear when I go to the bike park and they have been properly awesome in all conditions, more of a front tyre than a rear one imo.0

Good tyre but you have to be aggressive in the corners to get the best out of them. There's a lack of grip in between upright and cranked right over. Get the bike on it's side in flat turns and they just dig in and grip. I like them.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350
