Aren't as aero? Really? So your definition of 'best' is aero? Not only is an 'aero' road helmet a waste for everyone who isn't a world class sprinter or riding track, but as I've shown in previous posts Giro's own Synthe is lighter, better ventilated and more aero (haven't looked at price) with the added bonus that you don't look like a skier. The Evade also fits this category. Now you can choose to believe that Giro's testing counts for nothing, or you can concede the point that you like the Air Attack because you liked the look and now own one.

How can an aero helmet be a 'waste'? Don't you ride an (aero) Foil? Isn't that a waste?

By the same token, every light bike or component must also be a 'waste'.

As I put out somewhat less power than 'a world class sprinter', I need all the help I can get to ride fast. If a helmet might help (a bit) then why not? The occasional races I do average around 38km/h over 100km, so aero becomes more important. But even if I just get 30.3 instead of 30 on a 2 hour bimble, then great, faster is better, IMO.

But most importantly, the whole reason I posted a 'review' is because I find it useful to read other rider's opinions on equipment. I've given up on magazines, which just regurgitate the manufacturers spiel, sometimes word for word, a bit like you do. It's very rare to see a magazine slag a product off, and if they do, it won't be a big brand. Every new product is the 'best', the 'fastest'.

Independent reviewers have nothing to lose to say if they love or hate a product so to my mind, are more useful. Don't believe the hype; either try stuff for yourself or get the opinion of someone you can trust.

I sold both my Foils, but the comparison is a good one. You won't be faster. There. If aero were actually important to you then you'd hav bought a Venge instead of a Tarmac. There's nothing wrong with buying something because you like the look, just don't try and justify it it to others. I guarantee if you'd never bought me you'd be telling people they're pointless. As for your racing, if you know what you're doing then you're in the peloton thus any gain is moot.

  • I have a Casco speedster and I like it, it is not perfect, it does it's job. The criteria for me was not aero but the integrated helmet/visor as a new giro and rudies would cost twice as much....some cyclists are so against this type of helmet, I have had verbal abuse from this. End of the day, it is our choice what helmet to wear, out there on the roads I thought we were on the same page...I guess not.

    This.

I may not like them, but I would never abuse someone for wearing it. Pretty much like those who wear pro kit.

Agree with the last two comments - never even seen either of these helmets before this discussion - but I have to say I really like the look of them and the idea of the visor, to me is a great one. Increased field of vision and the way Giro have implemented the magnet system looks really handy. Id seriously consider one as my next helmet (if I could afford one!).

Its a shame some people feel the need to point, laugh and belittle something they don't like the look of - but I guess its the same in all walks of life....

Wow, where to start. Firstly, I don't think I ever tried to justify my purchase to anyone? It's just my opinion. I like the helmet, but you don't have to.

I prefer the Tarmac to the Venge. I think the frame counts for very little aero wise in road riding. As we have already discussed, and you have already agreed in a previous thread, position, helmet, and clothing are all more important.

I haven't bought an aero handlebar. If someone came on here saying theirs was great, I would be intrigued, I very much doubt I'd say it was 'pointless'.

Re. racing, often in peloton, yes, but often at the front, and sometimes in breakaways, so that's where aero helps, especially for me (small, light, low power).

Oh and I have a Saxobank aero (pro?) top. Sorry about that.

You seem to have mistaken internet banter for what occurs in real life. Might want to work on that.
