Bib shorts - £80

edited October 2014 in Commuting chat
After being approached by a club rider saying my bibs are going see-through at the back, its time for a new pair
I've looked on Assos outlet, Le Col, Rapha and I can't really justify more than £100 on shorts, and realistically don't want to spend more than £70, max £80.

Currently looking at DHB Aeron Pro and Race, and kicking myself I missed out on the wiggle sales. Looking for something race-fit and medium/thick for winter as I have other shorts for summer or can get some more when the time comes.

I'm 6ft, 32 waist 36/38 chest, so usually a medium, but can also squeeze into a small
Thanks

You could try Sigma Sport. Have picked up a few end of line bargains in the past (although looks like you could be a bit late).

I am finding them the dogs danglies atm. My rapha sky pros (200 down to 100) that I got last year just no longer cut the mustard. Will pick up some "spare" in the sale me thinks when swapping out an old pair of sky'ers...

Ive been thinking about the castelli nanoflex bib shorts. After the downpour yesterday and I had armwarmers on, my arms were totally dry and it shares the properties.

They are around £80 from wiggle

Free Aero at £81 is a steal - I bought myself another pair. Havent seen them as cheap as that in the last couple of years.

Nanoflex are good for keeping dry but they are pretty warm too Wore mine quite a bit last winter and was sweating every time. Too warm for me to wear them at the moment, but maybe before too long. I just bought myself some 3/4 nanoflex as I think by the time its cool enough for the nanoflex, I will be wanting to keep my knees warmer too.

They're 72.90 if you use the code CLEAR10.

Got knee warmers and tights for the cold.

Can't go wrong with Castelli. I highly recommend the Speedsuit, there were some deal to be had on those.

Ah - I see now, CLEAR10 was for Sigmasport, not Wiggle (which was where I had seen the free aero at £81). Only white XXL left at Sigmasport but lots more choice at Wiggle, albeit at £81 rather than £72

I would imagine, keep the tags on (actually the ones I have had used a safety pin so you could remove and replace the tags if you want) and above all else, dont try them on with chamois creme! Personally I would try them on with underpants in place but I am not sure everyone else would follow this etiquette.

that is the option I went for but it felt weird
  • Ribble appear to have some top end Santini stuff at 50% off.
  • I highly recommend the Speedsuit

For commuting? That's a statement and a half.

Etxeondo Orhi bibshorts are incredibly good. And can be had around the £85 mark if you hunt a bit.

Might not be any left by now. Worth a look though. Santini bibs are excellent. I just got a pair from Ribble - £30 down from £60.

A pair in my size too... well, there were a pair, now winging their way to me to add to the collection. Should've really got some nanoflex ones instead as I need a water-resistant bottom layer to go with the Gabbas but this was too good a price to miss.

How do these aero race compare to velo ones? Ive got a pair of the velos last year and they are still great.
But if these are far greater, with the discount etc I could be swayed, but my original statement was I was after nanoflex ones. So I think I will make use of the discount for nanoflex ones if they are available.

Will await a comparison reply first :)

Core Max? Me too, although they're slightly too small so if anyone wants a pair of BNWT large size then speak up. Good job I also got a pair of the Tempo Max down from £70 to £36 in XL (between sizes hence one of each) and they felt superb on a trial ride yesterday. Still some other styles available...

    Good choice.

Comfiest pad i've ever used, and good if you slide around on the saddle a bit like I do, and although every plonker's got one it does look alright.

Bit tight around the crotch (as are the full length rosa corsa bib tights), but you get used to that...

Those and the sorpasso 3/4 with the same pad for less than £90 at wiggle means I will be getting told off by the wife again! Still, best to be prepared and I will be in the 3/4s very soon at the rate the weather is changing!

I did today. Though the nano flex. They are much much better, IMO, than the Velocissimo despite sharing the same pad.

(I now have 3 pairs of Aeros thanks to Castelli Cafe, in fact they've put the price UP slightly now cos of demand!)

I've not brought my Sorpassos out yet but they are just, well, sublime.

I have some nanoflex 3/4s- I didn't find them very water resistant, although they were tested on a 100km Audax in fairly biblical conditions. I would expect that for a commute they could be quite good.

  • They're very good over 20 miles. In fact, despite it being biblical, they were still very much dry inside. Slight leakage at front of pad through seam. Crucially they are a very good temp for autumn
