edited October 2014 in MTB rides
Hi all,

I had originally planed to spend the weekend of 24th/25th October staying in Snowdonia and riding Snowdon and Coed Y Brenin. unfortunately i have just found out that the snowdon marathon is on that weekend and i cant get anywhere to stay plus alot of roads are closed etc. Hence i cant really go there now. It has to be that weekend as my life is planned around it lol.

So my question is, where else would be good to go and soend a weekend away riding. Will be riding All mountain/trail bikes and happy to do either natural trails or trail centres.

I live in Gloucestershire so a few hours drive from here is fine. Did shropshire (long Mynd) recently, FoD all the time and have also ridden BPW to death so neither of those suggestions please.

Look forward to your input.

If I remember, Coed-Y-Brenin is stuffed full of trails. There's also Machynlleth, Antur Stiniog and Betws-y-Coed around that area, so not being abole to do Snowdon is no real biggie. Still plenty to do.

    Failing that, Dumfries in Scotland, and you've got most of the 7 Stanes within an hours drive (Mabie/Ae - 10 minutes, Dalbeattie/Newcastleton - 30min, Kirroughtree/Glentress - 1hr, Glentrool - 1hr15min)

Thanks for the reply but the reason snowdon is out of the question is because there is no accomodation available, all booked up for the marathon. And scotland isnt really few hours from me, thats a full days driving in each direction. Cheers though.

Will hopefully go back to snowdonia another time as so much i wanna ride there.

Machynlleth should be far enough from Snowdonia to have accommodation available.

Stunning scenery to keep you entertained as you climb and some really mind blowing descents.
Friendly locals and great local beer (Hawkshead Brewery) make time off the bike pleasant as well.
  • I agree with Oxoman marin trail , penmachno with the new loop just opened and always jump in the car and drive 30 mins to coed y brenin.

and loads and loads of accommodation in betws y coed or nearby.
