Are press in BBs as bad as the forums would suggest? Thinking about a new bike but the Scott Scale has a press in BB which is putting me off a little.

Any advice appreciated
This is why!

  • I had one for a year with no problems. Other people have lots of trouble with them. I think good fitting is needed for long life but when you need to change it special tools are needed.

I have one on my Anthem and have had no problems with it, my Cube has one but early days to say if if ok or not.
  • Had bb30 . Did fine for around a thousand miles, when it was time to change I went for external due to ease of maintenance . Bb30 tools were going to be too expensive .
  • I agree with Rockmonkey.
If it is fitted correctly at the start you should get 1000+ miles out of it.
My mate has to regrease and clean it regularly.
I'm too lazy to bother about cleaning and general maintenence so was having trouble after only 500 miles.

Yes and no. They can creek and groan.

The best one I have found bar far is the Hope PF41. Hopes design uses a threaded centre tube which pulls it all together.
