Do 8 speed cassettes fit on 7 speed freehubs?

Just spotted an awesome deal for an 8 speed cassette and a chain, and my current bike has as a quite badly worn 7 speed cassette on the back.
Im planning to take a used 8 speed casssette off my main wheelset, put them on the 7 speed freehub on my 2nd wheelset, then get a new cassette for my main wheelset.
I was wondering if it would be possible to get an 8 speed cassette onto a 7 speed freehub?

Not if it's truly a 7 speed freehub no. If if has a spacer behind it then yes.0

If it's a cassette you can dismantle, you can use 7 of the 8, or you can use 8 off a 9 (using a 9 speed shifter) as well.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
