Are all clothing sizes the same?

I need a fresh set of gear for next weekends trip, called in Evans yesterday but wasn't impressed with what they had on offer so will have to resort to buying online.

I've got a set of Funkier gear in XXL (inb4 fatbstard), will I be ok buying the same sizes over different brands? Just bibs and a jersey on the list.

    In a word no

When I'm unsure on sizing I buy from Wiggle and get a couple of sizes and just return the size that's wrong because it's totally free to return to them.

Definitely not. Even sizing in the same brand can be dodgy !
  • Cheers, ordering a few to see.

Nope- I am medium in DHB, large in Rapha and XL in Castelli! In the Torm tops I have one is large and the other XL- the difference between a half and full zip top from them. I generally go by the measurements on the sites- not had too many issues following those.

Sometimes seen bimbling around on a purple Fratello Disc or black and red Aprire Vincenza.
  • I am with Menthel - look for the sizing guides.

This is one of my gripes with clothing generally. Four years ago at Eurodisney I bought a 2XL hoody as it was colder than we expected. I also bought a 2XL t-shirt. The hoody was fine, I had to lose 3 stones before the T was wearable. I'd rather clothes be sized cm or in.

  • Don't buy any Castelli!

Actually the entry level Castelli stuff sizes really big. I have a Prologo HD Jersey and it is massive even compared to the Gabba.

  • Fair point. Just dont' buy a Fawesome vest.

They definitely aren't the same! I'm down to an M in Endura but an L/XL in Castelli, L in Pearl Izumi, XL in Owayo (custom jerseys for events etc.). I got an XL Gabba and probably could/should have an L now.

For reference I'm a medium or occasionally small in all high street clothes...
  • The castelli bibs I've ordered might just cut off circulation to my manhood then. Next day delivery via wiggle so Ill see tomorrow then maybe end up shopping again at weekend.

Can't wait now, 8 days to go until an Italian cycling adventure... sort of.

Castelli Shorts come up small. Ordered a Large Pair on the basis - waaay too tight.
Went for XL - still too tight.

Returned them and got DHB's in medium. Perfect fit and nicer shorts. (and half the price !)

DHB bibs medium, Castelli bibs xxl or even xxxl for me!
  • So yeah, lesson learnt. Bib's in XL didn't even get past my thighs.
