2013/14 Voodoo Bantu 15.2kg - http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/m ... 14-18#tab2
2014 Decathlon RR 520 13.4kg - http://www.decathlon.co.uk/rockrider-52 ... ctFeatures

Clearly the Bantu is cheaper, so you'd probably expect heavier - but nearly 2kg? I know the 13.4kg is quoted in the S size and without pedals for the 520, but the larger frame would add, say 200g, and the pedals 400g (?) you're still talking a good weight difference between the two. Really?

(I'm buying for SWMBO, and to be honest the Bantu looks to do everything right - except for the weight - and I'd rather pay nearer £300 than nearer £400 otherwise she'll end up with the most expensive bike in the family!!)

The Decathlon website is messing me about right now, but from memory the 520 has Raidon forks, that's about half a kilo difference from the XCR on the Hoodoo, plus the RR has slightly better (lighter) brakes.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Cheers - but the fork is the same (Suntour XCR - though 120mm on the Bantu vs the 520). I've no doubt that the 520 is probably the better buy, but I'm being stingy! Plus, at £370, I then really have to consider the Calibre too, and I haven't got time to get to a Go Outdoors place as well!

The Bantu is more trail orientated than the 520 which is more XC orientated, that would be my main driver for choice there.

Just spotted that RR claim a frame weight of 1.9Kg, having weighed one I know a Bantu frame is about 2.15Kg in 18" trim.

Cheers. Never really understood the finer points of XC vs Trail for non-expert users to be honest, but if you're saying that the RR is designed to be lighter and nimbler, then I guess that does make reluctant sense for SWMBO!

A Trail hardtail will have slightly more travel, slightly shallower head angle and a slightly higher front end relative to an XC bike, you can do this on an XC bike by going from 100 to 120mm forks and maybe a slight rise on the bars. minor differences with a lot of overlap though.

They're marketing terms, one company's XC is another's trail.

XC conjures images of lycra and shaved legs, which people don't like, so trail is a way to make it sounds hip and cool. Bikes may be shorter, taller at the front, but frankly all bikes are going that way anyway, >700mm bars and 120mm forks aren't uncommon on full on XC race bikes these days anyway.

    There are no defined differences.
