Strava Routes - Elevation

I've been trying to migrate from mapmy ride to Strava for route planning.
A problem I've found is that my Garmin 800 isn't recognising the elevation from either the .gpx and .tcx files.
When I go to the course all I get is a flat green line on the elevation screen.
If I load the tcx into mapmyride and export it again the garmin recognises the elevation.
Is this a Strava bug?? Does anyone else have this? Am i doing something wrong?
Had a quick look onthe knowledge base but nothing springso ut.
