Does anyone have any experience of the Vittoria Zaffiro Pro tyre? How are they in wet conditions? Will they do as a commuting tyre through the winter or do I need something better suited to the wet weather?
Thanks.
Thanks.

This might be controversial, but I wouldn't overthink it if I were you. If you were a pro descending alpine passes at 50mph then you'd be well advised to consider tyre choice. But none of us are likely to be testing the limits of our tyres on the daily commute.
The practical answer is - I've ridden Zaffiros in the dry, in the wet, on the commute, on fast descents and steep climbs, and I've never found myself lacking traction.0 -
A set of these came on my singlespeed. I've put 100miles on them in the first week over tarmac, gravel and grass. Seem quite resilient.
Hebden, what's the puncture count for yours?0 -
Ok. My reason for asking... I've done a fair few miles in mine including a 70 mile Sportive. I'm not a fair weather cyclist but I've been lucky that has mostly been on dry roads. A few weeks ago I was on my way into work in the wet, took a corner a bit sharply and my tyres skidded out from under me. It was a pretty nasty fall and I cracked my helmet (replaced the following day).
I have riden since but I've lost a lot of confidence on turns. So, I'm trying to decide if I would feel safer with a new pair of tyres, or if I just need to slow down. :-)0 -
Basic cheap tyre often found on complete bikes. Not great but not the worst either. If you fell while cornering then it was more likely the surface or the speed that caused the fall than the tyres. In a crit race on a tight circuit then tyre choice is an issue but otherwise it's more of a luxury.
Personally I would change to a nicer tyre that inspires more confidence and feels nicer. Tyres aren't a massive investment but they make a big difference IMO.0 -
They are fine for commuting. The Rubino Pro are the better and more resilient tyre especially if you get the tech variety.
Generally it is pressure which dictates grip. I had a set of Corsa's and ran them at high pressure. Very skittish and were ripped to shreds in no time.0 -
Get rid
Dunno what it is about them but Zaffiros are comically bad in the wet , there are hundreds of better tyres out there, including Vittoria Rubino Pro's which are very good.Cannondale Supersix / CAAD9 / Boardman 9.0 / Benotto 30000
