30.5 clamp front mech?

Hello,
I'm rebuilding a 90's harry quinn mountain bike, made from colombus tubing, and the sachs front mech I've taken off it says it has a clamp diameter of 30.5.
I'd been hoping to replace the groupset with shimano, could I get away with using a 31.8 clamp with some sort of shim? Has anyone had any similar experience with this kind of problem?
Thanks for your help

Plenty of Shimano mechs come with shims, so they can fit different size tubes, so I can't see it being a problem.
Maybe some of the boffins here could help more specifically though.

You're gonna have to do that. these days it's all 28.6, 31.8 and 34.9. Shim will be fine.0
