Wanting to go 'Compact'

On my winter bike I've got a 53/39 Ultegra chainset.

Getting that bit older and living in the Peaks I'm wondering if it would be possible to replace the 39 with a compact chainring for the coming winter?

Thanks in anticipation.

Not possible. 53/39 uses 130 bcd rings, 50/34 use 110 bcd, plus it'd be too much of a jump between 53 to 34.

Bigger cassette or new chain set.
  • Thanks for that Flasher - I had my concerns but thought there could be a way around it - I'll stick a 30 on the back!

Yes too big a gap BUT if its Ultegra 6800 you can swap the rings only (all are 110 bcd).
