Fitted a new chain and there's a grinding sound from the front granny ring, it doesn't do it in the big ring
Is it just a case of the new chain bedding in? The chainring still has life in it

Are you sure it's not the chain rubbing on the derailleur cage?

    Probably this.

I am just imagining the chain hasn't been shortened to fit and is basically just too long meaning it rubs on the bottom of the front mech when in small - small rings.

    It's not the cage rubbing

It's fine when I spin it in a bike stand, it's only when I put a decent bit of pressure on the pedals
  • Check the chain rings are clean and not covered in old oil and especially sand.

It may just be worn though so the new chain isn't in a way, pairing up to the old chain ring.

To check the chainring for wear, wrap the new chain around it, then hold the centre of the wrapped part and see how far you can pull it away from the teeth. If the chain is snug against the ring, it's fine, but if it comes away from the chainring by a significant amount, it means it's worn.
