Now Raceshape is in Strava, is there a similar alternative?

I used to use Raceshape to compare my efforts up segments to those of others - I found it useful to see where I was virtually gaining time and virtually losing time. It made me realise that I often hit the bottom of hills too hard and then run out of energy nearer the top. I always regretted, though, that Raceshape couldn't (as far as I am aware) compare my PR against any of my previous efforts.

I know that Strava has now bought out Raceshape, which will close in October. Trouble is, I'm not a premium member and I don't plan to pay to join (cheapskate !), and can therefore now only compare my performance against the KoM, rather than against others who have climbed a little bit faster than me and therefore might offer me better virtual feedback.

Does anyone know of anything else out there that does something similar to what Raceshape did?

you could always trick raceshape into comparing any of your rides - just look at the share this exact view button and the URL it produces.

sadly I'm not yet aware of any method of achieving this in strava - but you can compare another persons ride against your own - look at their ridden segment then press compare and it'll compare against your own. (iirc!)

You can compare one of your own efforts against your best effort in Strava for free. You can't compare against anyone else but the KOM.

To compare your own effort against your PB go to the ride you with the segment you want to compare against your PB.
Find the segment in question in the list and click on it.
Above the height profile you will see a box labelled 'Compare'.
Click on it and your effort in that segment in that ride will be compared against your PB for that segment.

    This does work.

I think strava does this in a limited way... Im not a cheapskate so i can compare with up to five others, or five of my own

Thanks for those, that looks as though it will solve my query (and allow me to remain a cheapskate!)
  • It's funny, only just discovered the compare button by accident 1/2 hr ago! Seemed quite hidden. Excellent.
