Did Ride Across Britain again last week, finishing yesterday.

Very sadly, a lady rider was involved in an RTA in Scotland on Friday and died on Saturday. Having completed the event twice, I can honestly say it feels like family when you are there, even toward people you don't know on the ride.

She was raising for Alzheimers UK. If this is a cause you support, or the story touches you, her fundraising page is here should you wish to contribute.

Rest in peace.
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?

RIP indeed, such sad news. Poor kids and family - they must be absolutely devastated :(

Any idea of what happened? (not looking to blame anyone here btw)

    Not an isolated incident, unfortunately.

My neighbour's uni rowing partner was killed last week.

Only through second hand speculation and rumour, so I'm not going to post until the police investigation concludes.

Very sad news. Sympathy and condolences to all that knew her.
Has there been an increase in deaths on long charity rides or are they just being reported more?

I would guess it is an increase in reporting.

Reporting bias affects so many issues.
Compare the number of deaths attributable to alcohol and the number of deaths attributable to Ecstasy over the last twenty years. If an alien came own from Mars and followed news reports, they would assume that every E will kill you but booze is fine, but the numbers would say something very different, as would the fact that booze is legal (pretty much compulsory in British culture) and Es are not.

Same with cycling (and many charity events). The 'dangers of cycling' is an easy sensationalist story to write and throwing in the charity element adds the emotional element.

Anyway, this isn't the place for that discussion.

    RIP.

Well done for finishing, and well done for promoting her cause.
