Thermal Socks for Winter

So I'm sure this doesn't need a post, but tend to find I get better products and prices if I ask here before I buy.
So I'm one of those cold feet people, was thinking of buying some Merino Wool, Thermal Socks, and read this somewhere, getting diving socks to go over the top, not sure if that overkill. Also over socks I don't use clipless that make any difference to oversocks? I do have pins on the pedals.
So was looking for advice on what to get? Thanks.

De Feet Woolie Boolie. I've tried several others and nothing comes close:

WOW that was too easy.
Do you need liner sock or anything else, or this sock alone does the job?0 -
Don't do Merino socks. Itchy, scratchy smelly things that take an absolute age to dry.
I use these http://www.prendas.co.uk/prendas-ciclis ... socks.html
Plenty warm enough and dry in no time.

Just the sock as is. I have 3-4 pairs as I ride everyday and like to keep a pair at work in case my feet get wet though, they're usually dry by home time and the spare pair seldom get used.
Treat yourself to a pair of these too and you'll be sorted for Winter:

I have these and think they're more of an intermediate sock, rather than something for deep Winter. They're good but not a patch on the Woolie Boolies.“Training is like fighting with a gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the gorilla is tired.”0 -

Sweet sounds like the two things I need. Question I am not clipped in, is that any issue with using the oversock, because I really do want an oversock.0 -

Hmm, you could use an overshoe with regular trainers/shoes but you'd really wear them out quickly. I suppose a MTB style overshoe which wraps just under the toes and heel, with a velcro strap in the middle would be your best bet. E.g:

Or just get yourself some lightweight Gore-Tex trainers“Training is like fighting with a gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the gorilla is tired.”0 -
woolie boolies are good, but you need these:

I got Woolie Boolies last winter and was astounded to learn what I have been putting up with over the years. They are brilliant in cold weather.

Don't worry it's over woolie on order.
Now it's oversocks for trainers. Already got goretex trainers was a spot of luck as had these for general use as they are so comfy and it turned out there pretty decent bike shoes.
So just oversocks up for discussion now.
And as we are on such a role, is there an outstanding winner for under helmet cap to keep head and especially ears warm?0 -

I have and they wear out very quickly. The Woollie Boollie's are far superiorSelling my Legend frame

I wear my woollie boollies all year round. The wool is great at regulating temperature, they are the same/similar to the cricket socks I have worn in the summer for years.0

I used to exclusively use Woolie Boolie's but I also now use the Prendas Thermolite which I find much betterCoach H. (Dont ask me for training advice - 'It's not about the bike')0

For overshoes to go over normal trainers, I am thinking: http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CLPXOSH/pl ... -overshoes anyone can comment?0

Should be ok. As noted before, they may wear faster.“Training is like fighting with a gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the gorilla is tired.”0 -
