I am flying with easy jet to Nice - I planned to take bike in Bike Box allen, with bibs and shorts, helmet, wash bag and other bits for 4 days cycling in alps.
I was not going to take a sepearte hold bag just a walk on with minimal stuff.
Someone in my group has just advised taht Easy jet only allow bike in box and no clothes ect.
Does anyone have experience flying easy jet with bike box.....?

Other airlines say that too, but I've never had a problem. I think as long as you keep it minimal in order to keep the weight down I think you'd be fine.
There is a health and safety issue for baggage handlers regarding heavy bags - I think that's the main issue - plus if course, the airlines can then use that as an excuse to get you to have a hold bag too so they can charge you for that too.
Put your kit in carrier bags and use them to protect the frame. Use that as an excuse if you get asked!0 -
Just say the clothing is there as protection for the bike. (IF they look inside ; unlikely)0

Many thanks I agree I think its about you spending another £30 on hold luggage - if I keep the weight down it should be ok...Sunny Days - De Rosa - King RS Action Azzurro lumina

Flew with Easy Jet to Portugal earlier in the year with bikes in boxes. I was under the impression that, providing the other stuff in the box was bike related (eg helmet, bibs, jersey, pump etc etc.), there wouldn't be a problem. We did exactly that and had no problem at all. We did take small rucksacks with a couple of t shirts pair, of shorts, toothbrush etc in for the non-cycling part our stay as we were assembling the bikes at the airport and cycling straight from there. We put our our "travelling" clothes in the boxes for storage at the airport until we returned, packed the bikes back in the boxes and travelled back. The biggest challenge was finding somewhere to store the bike boxes at the airport as standard lockers do not go anything like big enough.Wilier Izoard XP0

Hi
I flew into Geneva with Easyjet last month to do the Alps North to South finishing in Nice and took my bike in a Bike Box Alan and the bike in the box was around 21kg far less than the 30kg maximum weight limit. I made the mistake of paying for sports equipment and then additional hold luggage so could have packed my cycling clothes, helmet and shoes in the bike box as well as a few non bike related clothes. Easyjets take on the plane as hand luggage is 20kg providing you have the correct size bag I would advise taking the main bulk of your luggage on the plane with you and only paying for sports equipment. There was no handling issues from the airport staff both ends with the bike box.0 -
Often flew to Europe using easyjet, peddled up to the airport terminal, let a bit of pressure out my tyres, turned the pedals around so they pointed inwards and popped it in a plastic single mattress protector. (you can pick them up at any storage outlet like safestore for £5.99) On the other side I just fold up my bag reverse the procedure and cycle away. The only time I've ever had damage is when I used a cardboard bike box. I think the guys assume they can just throw it around in one of those. If its in a clear see thr bag they tend to look after it as believe it or not they don't want or need people making claims against them for damge. Either way good luck and enjoy the alps!0

I flew easy jet to Milan a few weeks ago. Checked the terms and conditions before flying which stated bikes had to be booked in as sports equipment and if you book sports equipment you also have to check in an additional hold bag. The total allowance for bike and hold bag was/is 43Kg.nearly there.0

Flew to Geneva back in July with Easyjet. No hold bag, just filled the bike box up with a load of other stuff (as well as mates tools etc) until it was about 100g under the limit. No issues whatsoever.0

I've flown around 10 times with Easyjet and a bike and they've never opened it, had it at 30Kg too once with an MTB in it. I always put helmet, shoes, a few bike clothes and tools in with the bag but then also take a suitcase. Chances are you'd be fine but you are going against their T&Cs so as long as you're prepared (have enough money) to quickly go and buy a suitcase and check in a hold bag if they refuse the bike bag packed with clothes you should be fine...0

We flew with Ryan Air - all our stuff in our bike bags (Evoc) - all up was well below the individual bag allowance. Not questioned once and bikes & kit inside travelled without damage.
We packed all the clothes into small bags to put inside first - so they would act as padding for the bike and you could argue that they were largely bike related ...0 -
Just checked the T's & C's on yanair who we're flying with and the boxes we've hired are right on one of the limits but I doubt they'll be argiung over 3mm.
We've got 30kg so bike plus box plus some clothing to protect from rattling about. We've also booked one case between the four of us so it's all good.Advocate of disc brakes.0
