Hi all.
I'm in the process of building a vulcan for my wife to pootle around on, on easy trails. I'm using parts from my hardtail as I upgrade - well this was the plan anyway.
Just cleaned my bike and found the old chainset is screwed - 2 of the bolts have dropped out - but theyre not bolts they look to be like rivets??
Anyway Im seeing it as a sign to replace it. But I want to buy an 8 spd chainset, to donate to the vulcan eventually but one that I can put on my bike for now. Anyone know of any bargains that may fit the bill?
Can a 9 spd chainset be compatible with an 8 spd setup?
Thanks

As small as poss really as will be moving over to the wife's Vulcan when I upgrade the full group set on my bike. However it could be on there a good few months so nothing that is going to be poor, and something that's ok for trail centre stuff0

Various Deore Hollowtech II options for £50 on CRC, or the square taper M361 for £30 (+BB at around £5-8).
If that's too much, then keep an eye on ebay - you can sometimes pick up ST cranksets for £20 or so.0
