Hi,

I'm looking to get my first FS mountain bike. Our local dealer is prepared to do me a really good deal on one of the new Merida's. I'm not sure whether to go for a 120 or 140 travel and was looking for advice. I mainly use it for riding the 7 stanes trails, red routes at the moment but aiming for the black, so is the bigger travel better for these kinds of routes or does it not make much difference. Price range makes it a choice between:

Any advice appreciated.

20mm, less than an inch of travel providing the suspension is setup correct for your weight i don't think you'll notice the difference. ( I'm sure someone will tell me i'm wrong) I have 130mm travel but never used more than 120 forks and shock have never bottomed out even though i weight nearly 16 stone.

If you're not using all your travel then you either haven't set it up right or you have too much travel for your riding...

    Personally I'd get the 140mm
  • Thanks for the replies. I'm going for 140mm.

    Good choice

I'd rather carry a little extra suspension around than come down a decent wishing I had more
