Rear Derrailer
Hi,
I have just changed my crankset from a 34/50t to a 36/52t to give me more gears on the flat/downhill. I am running a 12-27 cassette on the back but would like to change this to a 12-30 to give extra gears for the hills. Will I need a short or medium cage rear derailleur (either 105 or ultegra) for this set up?
Thanks
David

From experience I think you will need a medium cage and probably a longer chain.0

Another alternative would of been to switch the 12t cog for an 11t cog (+ lockring). a 50x11 is faster than 52x12. But you would still keep your climbing gears.0

If you want to fit a 12-30T cassette, an Ultegra RD-6700-A SS short cage derailleur will do that range.0

In fact all the last-series 10-speed Shimano *mechanical* rear mechs will handle a 30 on most frames.0
