Hello all got a great deal on a Giant propel advanced 2 but it's a limited time offer and unfortunately I can't get up for a test ride before offer expires, not sure whether to get a m/l or large. Felt z95 is my current bike, I'm 186cm tall and have 87.5cm inseam. Will the large have too long a reach and the standover height looks very high, I'm not sure how the different angles of the seat and head tube will affect the reach. According to giant sizing I should be a large. Any advice gratefully received, sorry but my understanding of geometry is sketchy at best

FELT M/L L
Head Tube Angle 72.5 73 73
Seat Tube Angle 73 72.5 72.5
Top Tube Horizontal 575 570 585
Head Tube Length 200 170 185
Seat Tube Centre to Top 540
Bottom Bracket Drop 70
Reach 392 391 402
Stack 600 566 580
Standover Height 767 813 836
Chainstay 417 405 405
Wheelbase 1022 986 1000

Aside from testing this yourself, the general advice on the Propel seems to be choosing the size down (with a view that you may need to extend the stem). But the only really way to tell is to sit on one or both. Good luck.

  • It depends on you really - if you can get the geometry chart for your current bike use an on line stack and reach calculator to work out which would be better. I know my current bike I wanted something with the same reach but more stack - what I didn't factor in is the spacer stack on my old bike effectively shortened the reach hence my new bike needed a shorter stem.

  • Thanks for replies, managed to wangle a few hours off work, so am going to test a large tomo and will make decision based on that!
