Hi Guys

I have bought these wheels and wondering what tyres would be good to use with them

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/campagnolo-bull ... -wheelset/

I have been looking at the following reading reviews but not 100% sure if they will fit

Veloflex Master 25 Clincher Folding Road Tyre
Continental GP4000's
Schwalbe Durano S Performance Folding Tyre

Does anyone have these wheels or any other suggestions.

I dont race but I am looking for a durable tyre that is smooth on the road and won't puncture with every scratch.

Also I am wondering if this wheel would fit a tubular tyre so open to those suggestions as well

Thanks

They are clincher rims so you won't be able to use tubular tyres with them. As to you tyre selection I haven't used any of them, however they all get recommended on here, also consider the Michelin Pro4 service course and latex inner tubes.

GP4000S 25mm if you have the clearance.

+1, except I use Conti supersonic tubes (50g) rather than latex.

  • Thanks Guys

Think I might try the Michelin ones as they are quite cheap at the moment with the sales.

The Michelin Service Course are great tyres and well worth buying to try out. I also have GP4000s which ride well but I've suffered problems with the sidewalls in two tyres over the last year which has undermined my confidence in them. Found the Michelins much more reliable in that respect.

  • I don't want to be disparaging about your choice of wheels (which I am sure are top quality) but why spend so much on these and then look to buy cheap tyres? If you ever get a chance to see what the Pros use to train on you will see that a significant number use Vittoria Pave. Other choices might be Veloflex or Challenge.

BTW you can fit tubular tyres to clincher rims - http://www.tufo.com/tubular-clinchers/ - although Tufo tyres are not known for their riding qualities.
  • What tyres would you suggest?

I don't want to filter buy price and buy an expensive pair just because I price, would rather have something that is reliable
  • Not a very helpful answer, but why did you buy the wheels and what do you intend to use them for (eg. commuting, riding in all weathers, sunny summer days etc)?

Also, how do you define reliable? (eg never puncturing, occasionally puncturing, good grip in all weathers.

There is no ideal tyre. Personally I use Vittoria Pave in most of the time and Durano Plus in winter.
  • What I mean is your saying why not buy expensive tyres but the ones I posted all have told reviews.

I go by reviews, trial and error

I don't look at the price, if it's got good reviews and I can afford it I buy
  • I have just fitted a pair of Michelin Pro 4 Service Course tyres (25mm) to my Felt Z4. They replaced the Vittoria Rubino Pro Tech that came with the bike (also 25mm). I recently rode Dover to Cape Wrath on the Rubinos and they proved to be a good tyre with no fairy visitation in 1000 miles. However, fitting the Pro 4s has been a revelation. Not only is the ride more comfy but they whole responsiveness is much improved. Amazing what a difference it has made. I will put the Rubinos back on for the winter but I am very impressed with the Pro 4s.

Incidentally, for the measurement obsessed, the Pro 4s measure up bang on 25mm in depth but 27mm width. That is when fitted to Shimano RS20 wheels and definitely look bigger than the same size Rubinos. I have had to take the Crud Racer guards off the bike as the Pro 4s do not fit under them whereas the Rubino Pro Techs fitted fine.
I have only two things to say to that; Bo***cks
