Hi all,

Guess what, another 'what bike should I buy' thread...

I'm looking at road(sportive) bikes at around the £1200-£1400 mark. I know that this question has been asked ad nauseam, however I have spent weeks trawling t'internet and basically I still can't decide (this after having been let down by a German company from whom I had ordered a bike.)

At the moment I've narrowed the list down to the following:

Verenti Revelation SR0.2 SRAM Force 22 £1406 http://www.wiggle.co.uk/verenti-revelation-sr02-2014/
Planet X RT-58 Ultegra 6800 £1399http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CBPXRT58ULT6800/planet-x-rt-58-ultegra-6800-11-road-bike
Dolan L'Etape Ultegra 6800 £1299 http://www.dolan-bikes.com/road/road-bikes/road-bike-carbon/dolan-l-etape-carbon-road-bike-shimano-ultegra-6800.html
Ribble R872 Ultegra 6800 £1290http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sed/road-track-bike/ribble-r872-shimano-equipped?part=SE14RIBSHIMR872&sub=conf_SERW#Wheels

Obviously all the above are mail order and I can't try them out unfortunately (I know that because I've phoned to ask them all). I've also been to my LBS to see if they could do anything with a similar spec for a similar price but they came back £600 more which is unfortunately more than I'm prepared(or can afford) to pay for local service.

Anyone know of any others that I should add to the list? Anyone have any particular pros or cons of any of the above?

I'd say that there'll be a prize for the best answer but I'd be lying :p

Thanks in advance

I'd suggest a Canyon Endurace or Ultimate unless that was the recently aborted plan?
  • Tell us what you'd ordered as that will be a great start point to what you're looking for.

I've got a similar thread going and thought the hard part would be getting the funds together, not choosing the damn thing!
  • It was a Rose Pro SL 4400. Aluminim with full Force 22 and Mavic Aksiums

In that case I'd probably go for the Canyon Ultimate CF SL 7.0

    http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=3589

Price is £1399 and it's got 11 speed 105 groupset and Aksium One wheels.

The groupset is a step down from Ultegra or Force but is the new 11speed version of 105 which should still be excellent and the I think the frame should be better than any of the bikes you've listed. It comes in at 7.6kg which is very light for a bike at that price.
  • Or even the Canyon Ultimate AL SLX for £1499 - lightweight aluminium plus it's got full Ultegra and Kysrium Elite wheels. I'd be surprised if you can get that spec anywhere else at that price, even on aluminium, never mind carbon

I'd be interested to know what problems you encountered with Rose as I've got one of their bikes on my shortlist.

  • +1 for above and fully understand your dilemma.
Really cant decide between the Rose CSL or the Ribble R872. Kind of drawn to the Ribble more.

To be fair to them Dabber it wasn't anything major, it was just that their website never agreed with what their staff were telling me on the phone and when it go to the point that they were saying 'it will be made tomorrow' and then the day after the 'make' date on my order changed from 'in one week' to 'in three weeks', I started to worry about what would happen if there was a problem e.g. how long would it take me to send it back and more importantly get it back from them afterwards. As I say probably overreaction on my part but at least if there's an after sales issue with a Ribble or Planet X or a bike from the LBS I can actually take it back.

I think I'm talking myself into an R872 from Preston... :p
